By now, Peter was working at The Tivoli in Partick and with John at Anniesland, the brothers were now working in the West End of Glasgow less than 2 miles apart.
In 1960, John moved to the Odeon Renfield Street and Peter took his place at Anniesland. As the brothers were identical twins, Peter remembers that "nobody at Anniesland realised there had been any change!".
Although John didn't realise it at the time, the posting to Rutherglen was a good move. Two months later the New Savoy closed down and the projection staff were made redundant.
After a year at Rutherglen, John was transferred to the Odeon Anniesland, which as the Ascot was where the twins' love of cinema had begun.
The chief projectionist was the man who had screened those much-loved boyhood Saturday matinees, for John "it was like going home".
QUALIFIED PROJECTIONISTS
On completion of their training, Peter returned to The Capitol while John, who had trained at the New Savoy in Hope Street was posted to the Odeon Rutherglen, a prospect that initially didn't please him.
"I was very annoyed as Rutherglen was at the opposite end of Glasgow from my home. I wanted to stay at the New Savoy where there was a vacancy. However the regional engineer said 'you do what I tell you, go to Rutherglen'".
