Highlights in 1979 included an illustrated talk by Ladykillers and Whisky Galore director Sandy Mackendrick in June, Hitchcock's Blackmail and The Lodger with live piano accompaniment in October and a Marilyn Monroe / Billy Wilder double bill of Some Like it Hot and The Seven Year Itch in December.

A regular feature of the GFT programming at the time was weekend late shows such as Magnum Force, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and horror films, complete with X certificates for Adults Only !
